Michael Waltrip involved in accident, is OK MORE: #55-Michael Waltrip crashed into a motorcycle Wednesday night while trying to make a U-Turn and was given a field sobriety test by a Mooresville police officer, a report states. Waltrip was attempting a U-turn on Perth Road around 7:49 p.m. when his Lexus collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle. The motorcyclist was transported to Lake Norman Regional Center. According to the police report, Waltrip was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, but passed a field sobriety test at the scene. Waltrip was given a Breathalyzer and blew a .06, under the North Carolina legal limit of .08, the report states. Waltrip was cited for failure to yield. He was not injured in the accident. The Sprint Cup driver and team owner was involved in an accident in [April] 2007. The North Carolina Highway Patrol charged him with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Those charges were later dismissed.(WCNC) MORE Mooresville police say alcohol was a factor in an accident Wednesday night involving NASCAR driver and team owner Michael Waltrip. Officers investigating the accident suspected Waltrip was drinking, but when he was given a field sobriety test, he registered a .06. In North Carolina the legal limit is .08. Police say Waltrip was leaving the parking lot of a shopping center and when he pulled out, he attempted to do a U-turn around a cement median. Waltrip pulled out just an as on-coming motorcyclist was approaching. The motorcyclist, identified by police as Ronald Hausman of Mooresville, slammed into the driver's side door or Waltrip's Lexus. The police report on the accident says Waltrip "was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol." He was given a field sobriety test and passed a "walk and turn" test and a "one leg stand" test. "He did not meet the criteria for the DWI, however it was indicated as a contributing factor&on the accident report," said Captain Phil Blocker of the Mooresville Police. Waltrip was given a citation for failing to yield the right of way. Waltrip lives in a gated estate in Sherrills Ford. His home is secluded from the road. There was no answer when reporter Rad Berky buzzed at the front gate after this latest accident. Attempts to reach the rider of the motorcycle were also unsuccessful.(WCNC)(10-22-2009) AND Mooresville police are reporting that NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip has been ticketed after getting involved in a traffic accident with a motorcycle. Waltrip was driving a 2008 Lexus on Argus Lane when he turned onto Perth Road and attempted to make a U-turn when a 1980 Harley Davidson driven by Ronald Richard Hausman struck the driver's side door. Hausen told police that he turned onto Perth Rd. from River Highway when Waltrip turned into his lane of travel. Mooresville police suspected Waltip of being under the influence and was given a sobriety test on the scene and had a blood alcohol content of .06 which is below the legal limit. Hausman was taken to the hospital where he later told police that he drank two beers prior to the accident. Waltrip has been charged with failure to yield.(WSOCTV.com)(10-23-2009) This message has been edited. Last edited by: TXJBFAN, |

What is this man doing Ever since he became a car owner he has been doing things I never thought he could do.
|
||||
|
As a motorcyclist, I find the lack of information about the state of the rider to be frustrating.

I beN a bike rider too, I agee with ronstew need more input on the ride. About Mikie it just shows that he is human after all and that everyone is going to down him for it!

More confirmation of how I've always felt about his driving abilities.
I hope the rider is ok. Mike <>< The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing... |

Who is Michael Waltrip?
I hope the biker is O.K. to.... |

I am glad Mikey is OK and I do hope the rider is the same way.
It seems to me that Michael's been on a downward spiral in recent years. Kind of sad to see. This is his second accident in the last few years. "Just focus on what makes you happy. Don't dwell on the negative." - Helio Castroneves |

Every since Michael became a car owner in the cup cars he has gone down hill. Hope the rider is ok.

CLiff-I can't believe you would say"after all he is only human..." I do not believe in ever making excuses for anyone who drinks then gets behind the wheel of a car! Especially because it's his 2nd time, and most especially because he is a role model who-hello-drives for a living!!! I love Mikey too-but I don't know how much I would love him if I were that biker or his loved ones! He needs help, obviously. Making excuses for him is not help however.Maybe if enough negative publicity occurs, it will force him to get help.

Sandi; I don't like Mikie as a driver and don't know him as a person, nor was I makeN any excusses for what he did. But what I did say was "About Mikie it just shows that he is human after all" {guess you don't know sarcasm when you read it} If you are going to quote me then don't do like the newspapers and TV news and quote part of what is said or twist it to make it say what you want it to say! And it IS human to error, unless you are perfect which isn't human.
I also said "He with out sin cast the 1st stone!" which I was meaning by that is I'm 100% sure that everyone has made thier own misstakes in life, so why condemn Mikie when he makes his. And what makes you think there is a problem with him that he needs to get help? Because he drank a beer or two which isn't against the law and drove under the drinking limit? Because at another time he had a wreck and everyone "assumed" he had been drinkin at the time of it? I'll shut up now befor I get banned from the web page for speakN my mind on the drinking laws and how people are ready to condemn others for thier drinking. Oh just so yaw' know I haven't drank in over 2 years so you can't play that i'm a drinker that thinks it's ok to drive drunk, I just think everyone and MADD over plays it way to much and makes a mountain out of a mole hill! I could'nt disagree with you more Cliff. Sandi is right. I believe that all people should be forgiven because like you said, "everyone makes mistakes" but their are and should be consequences for your actions. So some people voicing their disapproval with MW is exactly what should happen.

DK you also missed what I'm saying. But the point here IS he was under the limit so no foul, but he is still being condemned for the drinking part of it! Which shouldn't have been part of the story in the first place, but it sells newspapers and gets people to watch thier news.
DUI laws are way over kill in NC and most other states, DUI laws here are worse then breaking and entering, attemped murder, dealing drugs and other such crimes for your 1st DUI weather you have been driving for 1 day or 50 years with a clean driving record. Know; I'm NOT talking about some one that has a bunch of DUI's or has wrecked and killed someone....thats a horse of a differnt color! I know I'll hear somewhere here that drunk drivers kill, but so does speeding, running red lights, ect [the way you die is God's will and the way he intends for you to die] but they don't ruin some ones life for those when you get your 1st, 2nd ect. If you have ever drank I bet you have driven. .06 is about 2 beers , 2 mixed drinks or 2 glasses of wine! Cliff aka ancsandman aka "Wacko Fan" |

TIME OUT EVERYBODY THIS ONE NEEDS A REFEREE
there are valid points by everyone but allow me to referee if I may: 1. the opinions of anyones like or dislike of ME either personally or driving is not relative here... 2. there probably a very low percentage of people writing or reading this that have not at sometime driven under the influence -- consciensouly or subconsciesouly -- it only becomes a issue when a person is involved in an accident and the issue gets hyped by who they may be.... 3. can you imagine if the state police of the states where tracks hold races gave breatherlisure tests as people where leaving the track after a race....a large percentage would never get out of the track. 4. so a the referee (and spelling on several of the above words don't count) it is time to take off the gloves and behave like adults not adolts...(that spelling was correct).. 5. It is a tough issue and the facts against MW personally aren't known whether drinking is an issue on an ongoing basis or he just can't drive well when he is drinking.. 6.. sorry to speak this way but it looked like it was getting pretty ugly with each added post... chuck youcheff |

opps my typing is bad...
#1 should say MW not ME but I guess that option is open also.... just trying to stay middle here because I believe many of us have done this and haven't wrecked so it never has been an issue to us...but when a wreck happens and we have been drinking whether at state levels or not that alcohol issue raises it ugly head... I go back to number 3 and guarantee many of the people driving home from the track would not pass any tests.... chuck youcheff |

Sorry guys! Don't want this to get ugly. I think the biggest point I was trying to make is MW is a role model-especially to the young ones. His face is on the TV week in and out. He's paid the big bucks to be a responsible person. He reaps the benefits of being in the public eye. He owes it to his fans, Nascar, sponsors and race team to be responsible.
|
||||
|
Sandi true but each and everyone of us is a role model to someone....family, friends our employers also.....when someone does something like this they are responsible for their actions I don't care if they make big bucks or small bucks...we have to be accountable for our mistakes because we are role models ourselves to somebody....

WOW PEOPLE!!! I sure hope JB gets a ride soon so we can get back to talking about racing!!!!!
I will never understand MW and how he even still has any job in racing....... |
||||
|
I wonder if the guy driving the bike thinks that there is "no foul". I'm guessing he wishes MW had not been drinking.
